We strive to build a close-knit community among Jewish college students and we invite you to explore the expansive Jewish life at the Claremont Colleges. Events are open to students, faculty, and staff as well as to residents of the surrounding community. We include people of all backgrounds, experiences, political views, and identities.

Shabbat

Every Friday Night

Each week, we will host Shabbat dinner with services and DELICIOUS FREE FOOD, yes free, no meal card swipe required! There will be vegan, dairy free, and gluten free options. Please RSVP so we can estimate how much food to make.

High Holy Days 5778

RSVP online required for all services and especially meals. Community members may also make a High Holiday contribution to Hillel through the RSVP form or directly on our Support Us webpage.

All Services will be held at Balch Auditorium, Scripps College

Rosh Hashanah
First Night — Wed Sept 20th 6:30pm — Evening Services
7:30pm — Festival Meal — Hampton Room, Scripps (above Scripps Dining Hall)
First Day — Thurs Sept 21st 10:00am — Morning Services — followed by Kiddush and Tashlich* in Seal Court
*Tashlich is the ritual of throwing bread crumbs representing our errors into a body of water
Second Day — Fri, Sept 22nd 10:00am — Morning Services — Kiddush following service

Yom Kippur
Fri, Sept 29th — Kol Nidrei 4:45pm — 6:19 — Pre-Fast Meal — Hampton Room, Scripps College (please get food at Malott, and join together upstairs in the Hampton Room)
6:19pm — Fast Begins
6:30pm — Kol Nidrei
Sat, Sept 30th — Yom Kippur Day  10:00am — Morning Services 
5:00pm — Afternoon Services
6:00pm — Yizkor
6:15pm — Ne’ilah
7:15pm — Break-the-Fast - Hampton Room, Scripps (above Scripps Dining Hall)

Excused Absences for Religious Observance — Students are generally excused from class for religious observance; however, it is the student’s responsibility to talk with their professor in advance and arrange for any make-up work.
